American Cancer Society: CPS-3 Needs Your Help

I taped a new show today (Sept. 4, 2013) that featured the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Rotary. It was very informative. And, while I will write more about Rotary in a separate post, I want to focus on the American Cancer Society’s survey: CPS-3.
This important survey is seeking participants to help ACS continue its vital work in cancer prevention and cure.

Previous studies have given us ways to fight back against this disease. Did you know that it was an ACS survey that identified second hand smoke as being dangerous to non-smokers? The reason we have warning labels on cigarettes is because of the work done by researchers gleaning information from another ACS survey. One of the studies helped researchers to identify the link between breast cancer and smoking.
These are but a few examples of the importance of the work of the ACS.
What can you do to help? Well, this current survey ends December 2013 and more participants are needed. These are very large surveys that seek to include people of a variety of age groups, racial and ethnic identities. Diversity is very important.

I will list the criteria in another post, but wanted to just give everyone a heads up as to what is happening and how your participation and that of your friends and families may help the ACS to further its mission to eradicate cancer in our lifetimes.
More later. Check out the ACS website: CPS3@cancer.org or call 1-888-604-5888.
ACS is looking for adults 30-65 years old with no personal history of cancer.
Let’s stamp out cancer in our lifetimes.!!!

Is Anyone Awake,Yet?

What in this world is happening in this world, specifically in our cities, our neighborhoods, and our homes? It appears that the American citizen is engaged in a war that has only been declared by the violence that we see, hear, and experience everyday.

We are overwhelmed with stories of shootings, home invasions, molestations, flash mobs, and whatever kind of mayhem imaginable or unimaginable. Why are people losing their minds? Is it in the water, the food, social programming? And, why with all of our technology and so called intellect are there no definitive answers or solutions?

Is it the 24-hour 7-day a week news monster that is bringing all of this to us as a steady diet-our awareness has increased or are we experiencing an upheaval of our society/civilization?

Whatever it is, it is dangerous, scary, and it is Bible fulfilling prophecy. Having faith in my Creator does not make me immune to what is happening around me or to me. It makes me more aware of the importance of being aware of all things physical and spiritual.

Where do you stand today? Faith with awareness or head in the sand pretending all is well?

Voting Rights and Double the Educational Loan Interest

Just when I thought things were bad, now they are worst. How can I put my head in the sand and pretend that all is well when it looks as if the middle class and minorities are taking not just one crushing blow but the double hit?

I can’t pretend that in 2013 there are no issues with race and both of these new “blows” strike at the heart of minorities and the middle class which includes a lot of America. I believe that I undertand the social plan…a little slow on the pick-up. If America’s poor, middle class, Black and White are not educated, it affirms the rumor in the world that we are a bunch of non-deserving sluggards with no ambition but to procreate and watch sports while drinking a cheap beer.
Then big business may hire at lower wages the educated- in -American schools foreigner who really wants to work. Well, some Americans really want to work, too. But, living here, they want a living wage. And, now with the double loan interest, things are looking mighty slim towards getting that degree or advanced training.

Now, I don’t dislike big business, but it seems things have changed with their mindset. Their grandfathers and fathers invested heavily in their industries. They employed millions of people who were able to forge better lives than ever before. Now, outsourcing and off shoring the wealth seems to be the tule of the day.

No, big business is not mandated to “take care of the people”, but investing in America seems a good way to show that you still care…or do you? I guess those resorts in Saudi, Qatar, Cayman Islands, etc. all sound so much better for retirement away from what America is fast becoming.

Voting rights a thing of the past. Wow! Who saw that coming? Obviously, not the people who will be affected the most: the young, elderly, and the poor and middle class of this country. I saw no advanced warnings on the ticker at the bottom of my tv screen, no screaming headlines, no news analysts with their expert guests raving about it. Why? It just quietly slipped by just as the doubled educational loan legislation.

Why? It is too simple. What politician wanted millions of screaming people ready to storm their offices demanding justice? Not one of them, so they just slipped it under the radar and vethe news outlets have no incentive to give us the real news. We are busy watching Paula Deen and the Zimmerman trial, neither of which will directly affect us as much as the repeal of voting rights legislation and doubling educational loans. I say this with all due respect to the Martin’s loss of their child, and Deen losing the empire that she worked so hard to establish.

So, where do we go from here? I wish that I knew. Do we have opinions about these two issues? Maybe some of us feel that it is about time to make sure those we consider “too dumb to vote” and those “too poor” to be educated are permanently locked out. What do we think? I really would like to know just to prove that we are not all asleep at the wheel of a speeding car. Impact Imminent. Result: DOA.

What Is Going On?

Has anyone wondered “what is going on?” Well, I have and decided that there is so much going on today that it can make one’s head spin. It boggles my mind that as American citizens, we take our citizenship and its responsibility very lightly.

What does it mean to be an American citizen? Sure, many of us vote, but after that, our responsibility is done until the next election. But our participation should begin with the voting in of our representatives.

Have we forgotten to hold our elected officials accountable for their behaviors? Judging from how our country appears to be headed towards becoming a third world country, I will say, most of us are asleep at the wheel as the car continues on its collision course.

I read a book that said that we (Americans) make too much of a big deal about citizenship and that is why we oppose illegal immigration.
This author suggests that there should be no such thing as “American citizenship” to the degree that we want foreigners to follow our rules to enter this country.

I guess what concerns me is that while some of us are asleep, some foreigners who have come here without going through lawful channels, are being given a card issued by their governments (not the U.S. government) that entitles them to make loans, and get educational benefits, and all of the benefits that American citizens are often denied. How does a foreign country come into America, set up shop, distribute a card that gives the foreign illegals the means to access American banking services and privileges ?

What is a sanctuary city? Does this go against foreign immigration policy? Who is watching our borders? And, if we are “at war” how is it that 11 million people just walked in and now demand citizens’ rights? We are frisked at airports for our safety and telephone records fair game for the government to take a look. What part of this am I not understanding?

Am I against immigration? Absolutely Not. However, how do you maintain a sovereign country if the laws are not obeyed and enforced? Why has our government turned a blind eye to sealing our borders? As a world power, can we not protect our borders?  and why is our government making it very comfortable for people who spit in the face of America’s laws to stay here? When we were asleep, were we invaded and now we, the American people must pay the invaders? What is going on? I hear one politician after another saying, “Oh, well, we can’t do anything about it now. Let’s give them…..fill in the blank.” What is going on? Americans need jobs and educational dream acts (free college educations-we have some smart Americans who need a break, too.)

Cheap labor diminishes the worker both legal and illegal. Will the now illegal immigrant still work for low wages once he/she gets amnesty? We will soon see. What are your opinions about any of this article. I have plenty of questions…just seeking clarity and not trying to disrespect or to be hateful to anyone.

Just asking because as an American citizen, last time I checked, the Constitution guarantees my freedom to do so. My belief in human rights does not permit me to act in a cruel or harmful manner but without enforced laws, chaos reigns and civilization suffers. All laws are not good laws, but as a citizen of a sovereign country, there is a process in America that may be used by American citizens to repeal such laws.

Wouldn’t it make sense for people to use their own legal systems to improve their own countries? Or, demonstrate, demand, etc. to put in a legal system to improve their own governance? The countries of many of these illegal immigrants are not poor countries. Some are resource rich with a poor distribution of wealth…fight to change that in your own country.

I don’t recall American citizens taking to the streets of a foreign country demanding “rights”. Are there foreign countries in which American citizens may walk in regardless of that country’s laws on immigration, demonstrate, demand, coerce, falsify records, steal identities, receive free medical and dental care at world class facilities, free education in their native language, public assistance for food and shelter? If so, I want to know…of course, I need to find 11-12 million of my closest friends and relatives to get there so we may make our numbers count.

Well, I love America…this is the home of my forefathers, this is my home. The only country I know to call home. This is where I hope to make a positive difference. So, my 11-12 million closest friends and relatives will have to be content to stay here at home and strive to make positive differences in our home…not to disrupt and disrespect someone else’s home.  Comments welcome, no hatred or prejudice, please.

Gun control and 2nd Amendment

The show with Attorney Ken Ruud was very informative. I wish that was a way that I could post it, but legal copyright restrictions prevent that. Anyway, he ably discussed important components of the Constitution and gun control.

The show, Something to Talk About ,airs on Comcast channel 17 at 9:30 a.m. CST on Saturday mornings. The viewing area is limited, but word of mouth still works.

If you are unable to see the show, please go on the Internet or go to the public library in your city, town, or village and renew your relationship with the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. You may be surprised as to what you have forgotten or never knew about these most important documents.

How will you know if you are losing your Constitutional Rights if you have no idea what they are in the first place? Invite a political science professor or an attorney to your next meeting to talk about these documents and what they mean. Ask questions. Believe me, anyone who would laugh at you for trying to learn more about how this country was intended to be governed is really the fool.

Smart people ask questions and check out the sources from which they get answers. Open your mind and let a breath of fresh air/information flow through. Clear out some of the unused and abused information that tends to cloud the mind. Learn something new everyday. It won’t hurt and may prevent you from getting hurt.

New Show on Something To Talk About

My first show of the new year is dedicated to pet lovers and pets. The guests were Sue Michaelsen who is well known for her work in acupressure and other alternative therapies and Bernadette Duquette, a student at Rock Valley College’s Certificate Program for Compassionate Pet Grooming. Both are avid animal advocates and pet owners.

Sue has groomed dogs for 45 years and teaches the class for Compassionate Grooming. Her enthusiasm for caring for people is the same when she is caring for animals.

The tips and information that Sue and Bernadette turns grooming into an enjoyable experience for the owner and the pet. Also, they give advice on how to choose the right groomer and the value of choosing a disabled pet.

Sue’s dog, Muffin, is nearly blind and Sue delights in caring for this lovely little dog. Muffin was very well behaved on the show. Bernadette brought along her dog, PD and a beautiful mature cat named Sister Shy.

Sister Shy is in need of a permanent home. Her owner can no longer care for her. Dr. Sharon Schamberger, at Mostly Cats Veterinary Clinic- 815-885-2200 is giving foster care for this beautiful, gentle and mature cat.

Check out the show on Comcast channel 17 at 9:30 a.m. Saturday mornings.

New Year for Something To Talk About

This new year has all of the beginnings for a wonderful year ahead. I am looking forward to taping some exciting shows with guests who are experts in their fields. For example, have you thought about adopting a disabled pet? If not, an upcoming show will help you to make that decision without looking back. These pets are lovable and loyal. Their disability does not dampen their love for new owners.

Plus, I am planing to invite local experts on breast cancer awareness, detection, and treatment. There are innovative techniques to save the lives of women and restore them to their lifestyles. A major part of saving lives from breast cancer to to educate women about the importance of regular check-ups.

I have a lot of ideas for new shows this season and hope that you will join me if the show reaches your area. It is available on Comcast, channel 17 every Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. There is always Something To Talk About.
